Hang your Big Game Quarters with ease!

The most effective and clean way to temporarily store and leave game meat either at a kill site or at your camp. We believe these would be a great addition to your kill kit to hang game meat when there is a tree branch, or meat pole available.

The hangers are made in a high-vis color with reflective stripe. Often times a small branch next to the tree trunk is all that is needed. Or just a fork in a larger willow bush limb can be used.

Even when in a game bag, keeping the meat just a couple feet off the ground to efficiently cool is much better than leaving it on the ground.

Use the X-loc™ ferrule to set up the hoop with a simple and quick process by crossing the tail of the rope over itself and slide the ferrule over the crossed portion of rope.

You simply adjust the hoop on the rope line to the height of limb or pole you will use to hang the meat from.

Throw the hoop over the limb and adjust it to where you'd like the bottom of the meat to be.

With the rope now draped over the limb, hitch on the fixed loop end to the leg bone or bag, lift the meat while pulling the hoop down and hook the hoop around the bottom of the quarter or meat bag.

No need to tie off anything! And no need to cut the rope up.

Also, you can use the hanger to hold up a loaded pack by using the same process but put the hoop around the bottom of the loaded pack, then just slide the pack onto your back, unhook the hoop from the bottom of your pack, pull the rest of the rope back over the limb and walk away. Gather up the remaining loose hanger and tuck it in a pocket. No more rolling around on the ground trying to get your loaded pack on by yourself!

Still not convinced?

So your tag is punched and the quartering process is complete - Now begins the hunt for the perfect quarter hanging tree before the hike out. Digging around in your pack, cutting up rope, and tying knots (often done in the dark) is the last "finished" step in parting out big game.

That's where the Topknot Quarter Hanging Kit comes in handy! No more truckers hitches and granny knots eight feet up on your toes or cutting up that brand new hank of paracord only to end up with a bunch of odd length chunks of tangled up frayed cord in your pack. Our simple to use X-Loc™ adjustable hoop paracord kit lets you easily hang game meat quarters or bags from a meat pole or tree branch even higher than you can half hitch onto.

Meat Storage Suggestions

  • Even if you don't have a tree nearby to hang meat from we recommend you get the meat off the ground a little using logs or brush to allow more air to contact all outer surfaces. No matter what it's wrapped up in, it will cool the quickest being off the ground. You can even use the Top Hand to hang the bags from your tripod in treeless country!
  • When it's possible to hang game meat we recommend at least 3 feet off the ground. Moving your quarters away from the carcass and leaving a garment like a mid layer shirt next to your game meat will deter the critters until you get back. A headlamp left in strobe light mode works well for that too!
  • If in open country with no trees around you can set up the tripod and hang up to 3 elk quarters from it while you pack out the 4th on your initial return to your camp. You'd use the meat hangers to do this over the head of the tripod. And if you have a small tarp you can use the tripod to create shade while you are hustling meat to a better location.
  • Most black bears and other scavengers will not tolerate any human scent for a night or two but you'd best act quick if you have a lot of bear, fox, skunks or pine marten around.
  • Moving the meat in shorter phases can be the best option as it means less chance for any critters to find it until your human scent dissipates. Just hike a quarter as far as you can, but instead of just sitting there resting, you can recover on the return trip. Just be sure to mark that spot! And before you know it you've moved everything a good distance by yourself.
  • If leaving for longer time, protect it from birds by placing pine bows or brush over the meat, this will add shade as well. And always leave a garment.
  • Also, in early season if you hang the meat up off the ground the flies seem to leave it alone compared to leaving it on the ground, this goes with using meat wrap (Glad Wrap) compared with using game bags. The wrap seals in the fresh meat smell and has proven to us many times that scavengers either don't find it, or don't like it. Plus it cools at the same rate as any game bag and keeps the meat from drying out.
